Ivorivet invited us to join her “Amok Time” group for Gen Con, so we made a set of baked potato outfits Star Trek replica costumes. It was both Gen Con’s 50th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the airing of “Amok Time,” so the costumes were quite timely!

The costumes involved a lot of creative physics and silver lamé, but perhaps the most astounding feat of engineering was T’Pring’s wig. The finished product weighed 2.4 pounds, was supported with wire (for the gravity-defying braid) and bubble wrap (for the central hair roll), and was pinned into Alena’s hair so securely that the wig had to be partially dismantled to be removed at the end of the day.
